“Them” being one of those adults who calls the cops on a bunch on teenagers. So Friday night, I’m ready to hit the hay and realize that rather than getting quieter outside, it’s gotten louder. I live next to the basketball and tennis court in my apartment complex and lately the management has been leaving the lights on until midnight or so. Hanging out in front of my building are 10 or so teenagers, smoking, talking, sitting in cars with the radio on loud etc. I’ve been here 2 years now and recognize all the cars who park down here and about how many kids are in the complex. If there are that many teenagers in the whole complex, I’ll eat my mouse. I remember being a teenager and how hard it could be finding a place to hang out but darn it, they don’t live here and they’re loud and I don’t see why I should have to shut my window on a beautiful summer night to block them out when I do live here. And I couldn’t even eavesdrop on the louder bits because it was in Spanish.
So I called the cops. This is actually the seoncd time I’ve called about rowdy teenagers and I must say that town police department is very responsive. There was a squad car here in under 10 minutes. The officer had a little chat with the group and off went at least 4 cars. I knew they didn’t live here. And I went to sleep the sleep of the satisfied. I feel completely justified but how did I turn into one of “them”? <sigh>
