It’s been a month (02/12/2007) since Grammie passed away. I miss her dreadfully. If you look in the archives here, you’ll see a big gap in February and that’s why. So here’s her obituary (less a few last names and locations). I take full credit for the macaroni and cheese. :)

CUMBERLAND, RI – Mary Margaret (“Peggy”) S., 86, of Old Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland died Monday evening, February 12, 2007 in her home. She was the loving wife of 64 years to David W. S. Born October 7, 1920 in Milton, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Margaret (Paterson) Syme. Mrs. S grew up in the Wollaston section of Quincy, MA and was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School. In 1942 she received a BA degree in English from Radcliffe College. During World War II, she worked in the personnel office of the Radar Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She and her husband were residents of Prudence Island, RI for nearly fifty years before moving to Cumberland six years ago.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed time spent playing bridge, swimming, and sitting in her porch rocking chair on Prudence Island. She was an avid sports fan, particularly of college basketball and the Red Sox. She was very accomplished at cooking, especially handpicked blueberry pie, quahog chowder, and the best macaroni and cheese in the world.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Bonnie H.; a son, Woody S.; and four grandchildren: Sarah H., Jennifer S., Katherine H. and Jacqueline S. A memorial celebration will be held this summer on Prudence Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prudence Conservancy, PO BOX 115, Prudence Island, RI 02872.
